There is a particular kind of morning that doesn’t need improving.
It just needs somewhere to happen.
Not the alarm-at-6am, keys-in-your-hand, coffee-through-a-drive-through sort of morning. We mean the one where you suddenly realise you don’t actually have to be anywhere for an hour.
Maybe you’ve finished the school run, escaped your laptop or finally found time to meet someone you haven’t seen properly in months. Maybe you’ve walked down Beeston High Road with absolutely no intention of stopping anywhere.
And then you see the croissants.
That’s roughly where the plan changes.
First, coffee. Or maybe not.
There are mornings built for a flat white. There are others that make a fairly convincing case for an iced blueberry matcha.
AM has never really believed that a coffee shop has to choose between the two.
Our menu runs from espresso, cortado and cappuccino to Spanish lattes, iced coffees, matcha and some significantly more colourful options. The Rainbow Iced Matcha is unlikely to be mistaken for anything else on the table.
That mix has become part of what AM looks like: traditional coffee next to drinks that demand to be photographed. A quiet cortado next to something bright enough for your friend to ask, “What is that?”
Both are welcome.
Then you look at the bakery counter
This is where a quick coffee becomes slightly more complicated.
A plain croissant is an entirely respectable decision. Unfortunately, it’s sitting beside pistachio cream, tiramisu, Biscoff, Nutella and mixed berries.
Suddenly a simple coffee has become a negotiation.
The Beeston menu has a sizeable range of croissants alongside cinnamon rolls, muffins, scones and other bakery options, which means coming in “just for a drink” requires a certain amount of discipline.
We’ve seen how this usually ends.
You order the croissant.
Correct decision.
Some mornings need a plate
Come hungry and the menu changes gear.
There’s smashed avocado with feta, cherry tomatoes, chilli, lemon and olive oil. There’s smoked salmon with cream cheese, cucumber and dill. There are mushrooms with pesto and fried eggs, and whipped feta finished with hot honey.
Then there are the proper breakfast decisions: Eggs Benedict, Florentine or Royale, an English breakfast, granola, a Matcha Breakfast Bowl and a vegan breakfast.
Breakfast can be fifteen minutes with a pastry.
Or it can quietly become brunch.
We’re comfortable with either outcome.
The bit you don’t see on a menu
Food might get somebody through the door. What turns a café into your café tends to be everything around it.
The table you like. The seat by the window. The person behind the counter beginning to recognise your order. That half-hour when you’re technically answering emails but mostly watching Beeston go past outside.
The Beeston shop has room for exactly that, with indoor and outdoor seating and space for everything from a solo coffee to meeting friends.
It doesn’t need to be an occasion.
In fact, that’s the point.
Beeston is good at this
One of the things we love about being on Beeston High Road is that people aren’t only here because they’ve travelled specifically to visit a café.
They’re already living their day: shopping, walking, meeting, working, studying or heading somewhere else.
A good neighbourhood coffee shop gets woven into all of that.
You come once because somebody sent you a photo of a pistachio croissant. Then again because you happen to be nearby.
Then one morning you realise you have a usual table.
That’s the good bit.
And if the morning happens to involve coffee, hot honey, flaky pastry and absolutely nowhere urgent to be?
Even better.
